Best Rate Around

I don't know about you, but I've been very unsatisfied with my savings interest rate for some time now. The current credit union we're using isn't even at 1%. I wanted to pass along some good news. ING has a online savings account that gives a $25 sign up bonus (with $250 depposit) and has %4.41 interest. I was just reffered to it by a coworker & I really like it. It's super easy to use & all online. They don't have the overhead of branch tellers, nor do they send out paper statements. So, overall better interest rates. If you're interested contact me or leave a comment. I'll send you a link & I'll also get $10 for referring.

The Price is Right

Back in early October during Mid-semester break 3 JBU students drove all the way to LA for a chance to be on the Price is Right. Lo-and-behold they not only got into the audience, one of them was chosen as a contestant. Not only was she chosen as a contestant she made it all the way to the showcase showdown & won! You can watch the dream of these three ladies come true this Thursday's broadcast.

Christmas Spending

According to Newsweek, each person will spend an average of $604 on presents this year. Individually, not households. So, does this suprise you? Did you think it'd be more or less? I guess I'm a little suprised it isn't higher, at the same time it gives much more insight to the Christmas stress (I suspect very few people actually budget throughout the year to ease the December burden).

Merry Christmas

Not to minimize Thanksgiving (it was great), however, now that it's over it's officially Christmas season. For the first time in our entire lives we don't have a Fir Christmas tree. It's a Scotch Pine:

Very impressive & tons of fun.

1st again

8-3 thanks to Donovan McNabb's torn ACL. My opponent this week had same record, but held the top spot because of total points. With his quaterback going down he didn't have much of a chance to keep the lead.

Over the weekend....

We watched Nacho Libre. Favorite line from the movie:

"They don't think I know a butt load of crap about the gospel, but I do!"

No-Shave November

Grizzly Adams didn't shave, neither should you. So, the propaganda goes. Halfway through the month & I'm still getting questions like: Are you participating in no shave November?

Consumerism & the Church

C.S. Lewis wrote: “Every age has its own outlook. It is specially good at seeing certain truths and specially liable to make certain mistakes.” He suggests that reading books from different time periods helps to correct the characteristic mistakes of our own period. “And that means the old books.”
Consumerism and choice: this is the spirit of our age. It’s not that buying and selling things is bad. Or that an abundance of choices is evil.

These are inescapable facts of life. The danger is how such a culture distorts our ability to see. We’re trained to look at everything through a consumer lens: from goods, to services, to relationships, to God.

The problem is not the choices we’re presented with, but the basis on which we decide among them. And one of the “old books,” the Bible, helps us clarify the prevailing distortions of our present age.

Old Dog, Same Tricks

Rasheed Wallace lead the league last year in technical fouls, just like he did when he was with the Blazers. The NBA has tightened up it's policy and so far Sheed has 4 T's in as many games.

Tom Brady

He had 4 interceptions last night thus giving me 0 points for quaterback position.

Now, I'm 7-2.

For the record...

NBA has started last night. Dan Dickau is back on the Blazers and the Bulls are good again.
