If you wonder what's going on or the weather is like here at JBU at any given time, you can check out the current web cams set up across campus. There are two big construction projects right now, with three cams covering the action. Click here, here, and here for different perspectives.

Consuming Jesus

I just started reading Dr. Metzger's new book Consuming Jesus. I'm only a chapter in, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I'm reading it with 3 other guys, a book club if you will, and I'm excited to talk it over. The first chapter is basic history of the evangelical movement and the theological background that has us where we are today. It's not a "light" read, but very rich and thought provoking.

Mike Huckabee was on Saturday Night Live this week during weekend update. Click here to watch, it's only about 3 minutes long and is pretty funny.

Here is a picture of my daughter who is not a Sonics fan and who won't be too disturbed by hearing that NBA commishioner David Stern thinks they'll be out of Seattle by next season.

Joel & Brittany

The weekend of visitation ended when we dropped off Joel & Brittany at the airport this afternoon. We're so thankful that they spent their long weekend seeing the sights and enjoying the delicious local eateries with us. Unfortunately the weather was pretty bad all weekend and we didn't get to spend much time outside, but it was fun all the same. Personal favorites were the all-you-can-eat chicken & ribs meal at the local famous AQ Chicken House, Settlers of Catan, and watching Brandon Roy in the All-Star game. Joel & Brittany, thanks so much for coming. We loved having you and are thankful for your friendship.

Two Months

Today, Elisa is two months old. She's been so much fun lately. Almost everyday for the last two weeks, the first time I see her awake she's greated me with a smile. Yesterday, during our Daddy/Daughter time (Two days a week while Carolyn is at work for a few hours) I took this video of her smiling and playing with me.

Today when we got home from church I did our taxes. Elisa sure made a big (positive) impact for the returns. I love the feeling of finishing the tax paperwork. The satisfaction of putting on the stamp and knowing I'm done.....until next year (And knowing a check is on it's way doesn't hurt either).

French Holiday

Yesterday I joined some friends and played in the Siloam Springs Flag Football tournament. We did pretty well and came within a touchdown of playing in the championship game. Today, J. Alvin hosted it's annual Super Bowl party. About 100+ students gathered in the atrium to watch, but the local Fox station wasn't broadcasting. No one who had satelite TV in NW Arkansas could watch the game. By the time it finally came on there was only 25 seconds left in the first half and about 15 people left. Once the second half started more students came out to watch, but it was a frustrating to do all the work and not be able to watch the game. We'll see how it turns out. I'm not really rooting for anybody. I guess the Patriots simply because I'd love to see Boston have a sweep of the big three leagues (Red Sox won this year, Celtics are doing could happen).

Friday night with the NBA

Tonight the Blazers had a nationally televised game on ESPN against the Knicks. It was nice to watch a full game finally. I got to see the end of Wednesday night's loss to LeBron, but tonight's overtime win to spoil Zach Randolph's first return to Portland since the trade was fantastic. A lot of fun to watch and I'm glad they pulled out the win.

Remember Portland native and former Blazer point guard Damon Stoudamire? Well, he's been playing in Memphis since leaving Portland in '05. Well, he just signed with the Spurs. I'm glad for him. I hope he can stay with them through the end of the season and then retire. Maybe he'll get a rign out of it?

We just got the official word our friends Joel & Brittany are coming to visit in just two weeks! I'm very excited. It'll be great to show them all the excitement Siloam Springs has to offer.

Snow Day

Yesterday it snowed and for the first time this year it actually stuck. We got at least a couple inches and the students were having a great time on the quad playing in it last night. The snow man above is in front of J. Alvin and was about 8 foot tall. The funny thing about JBU is that they don't cancel classes on snow days. Every school in the area was closed, but because this is a resdiential campus they don't cancel. Anyway, by 2:00 this afternoon there was no trace of the snow man. Pretty much all the snow had melted except for those shady places where the sun don't shine. It was fun while it lasted.

Not too fast

This evening I took a picture of Elisa being a big girl in our Lay-Z-boy (click here for the story of how we got this chair). She hasn't mastered the whole sitting up on her own thing, so it took multiple tries to get a picture of her upright. As you can tell she's already leaning. Here is the after picture:
