Blazers Training Camp

The Blazers training camp starts today. This year will be exciting and many expect it to end by making the playoffs. I however, am not so sure they'll make it that far. The thing is, even with Oden being the beast he is, it still takes a year or two to get used to NBA action. He'll be awesome to watch, but he'll get the playing time even if it won't bring a win. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they won't make it. I just don't want the expectation of a successful season to be making it to the first round. In reality last year's record was inflated from where the team actually was at because they weren't on anybodies radar (average out the win streak in December and they aren't close to the playoffs). Consistent play and execution is what would be a succesful season, even if the wins don't come. If you need a little reading to get you excited for the start of the season I've provided links to a couple articles (here & here) that will wet the appetite.

Sports Venues

For you sports fans, I recommend checking out ESPN's list of America's 100 most important sport venues. It's a great history lesson that says a lot about where sports has been and how it came to be today. For those who are keeping track, Oregon has two venues that made the cut.

Dogs & Bikes

This morning I went on a bike ride with a guy from our church care group. We started around 8:00 and made a nice 30 mile loop into Gentry. It was a great ride because it was a cool morning, but really sunny. A funny thing kept happening though. Dogs were chasing us down all morning. I've never had a dog run at me while riding, but today 4 dogs did. At one point we almost ran over this little yappy Pomeranian that ran right in front of us. There was also a German Shepherd that eyed my ankle pretty good. For a second I thought he was going bite, but I guess I sped up just in time.

Mac & Cheese

I simply love the stuff. Always have, always will. It doesn't have to be fancy, the blue box will do just fine. Last week I finally tried Easy Mac. I remember it being around when I was in college and just never gave it a shot. Well, I must say I'm very disappointed. The minutes saved are not worth the flavor lost.

Andrew & Cassidy

Carolyn, Elisa, & I met Andrew & Cassidy in Tulsa for lunch yesterday. The Harpers took time out of their very long road trip of moving to Oregon from Georgia just to see us. It was great to see them and to see Cass pregnant. I'm so excited that they're having a girl. Girls rock.

Save the Day

The annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day is coming up on Saturday September 27th. It's an annual event that gets you into cool places for free. For those of you in Seattle, EMP is on the list as well as the Tacoma Art Museum & Museum of Glass. Two years ago we went to the Philbrook in Tulsa. I think this year we're heading to the Gilcrease. Anyway, click here for all the info and to find a location near you.
