Holiday Travel

It was a long trip and at times we thought it wouldn't happen, but Carolyn, Elisa, & I made it to Oregon. Our flight out on Saturday was canceled due to the weather in Portland. Carolyn was quick to call United and get us on the next day's flight. As we were checking in at the Tulsa airport for our the connecting flight to Denver, the lady at the counter told us our flight was canceled and that everything to Portland was canceled. I told her that it wasn't yet and we'll take the risk. She thought for sure we'd get stuck in Denver.

Our flight getting into Denver was 1 1/2 hours late and Elisa didn't sleep at all. We had to sprint 24 gates down the concourse to catch our Portland bound plane. Getting on board in time we were very relieved and glad we wouldn't be stuck in Denver. As soon as we got into our seats, tired Elisa just fell asleep in Carolyn's arms and stayed that way the rest of the way. She has really been a good traveler. Our flight into Portland was also late and we finally landed about 1AM.

Once on the ground Carolyn & I couldn't believe the amount of snow. It's really amazing that we caught one of the very few flights allowed to land at PDX all weekend. My cousin landed only 10 minutes earlier than us so we caught a ride home with her and Uncle Rick. By the time we got to my Mom's house in Columbia City it was 4 in the morning (6:00 in Arkansas). The drive out of Portland was very slow because of all the snow and driving with chains. We're grateful we made it and we're enjoying just hanging out and looking out the window. The thought of being stuck in Denver was scary because there would be so many other stranded people, plus all the flights are already full for all the pre-Christmas travel. We're very thankful to have made it.
