Readers like Sports
The National Endowment for the Arts conducted a longitudinal study (studying same group over an extended period of time) on Americans reading habits. Some not surprising conclusions were made like the fact that there is a significant decline in reading at all levels.
The surprising discovery was that there is a strong correlation between the act of reading and attendance at sporting events. Listed under #2 of the 10 key findings is “Literary readers and arts participants engage in sports more readily than non-readers and non-participants.” Literary readers are nearly two times as likely to attend sports events.
